Obituary for Albert Austin Jones Jr.

Albert Austin Jones, Jr., age 90 of Spencer, Tennessee passed from this life on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at his sons home.

Mr. Jones was born Tuesday, July 20, 1926 in Monteagle, Tennessee, was preceded in death by his wife Lemo Jewell Simmons Jones, parents Albert and Lillian Elizabeth Tate Jones, sister Flora Louise Jones McCoy.

He received a bachelor's degree in Industriat Technology and an EDs. from Tennessee Technological University and a Master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Mr. Jones cared deeply for the children and citizens of Van Buren County and was involved in many educational, civic and community activities. He worked tirelessly in his efforts to provide the children of Van Buren County with the tools and knowledge to be successful in their life pursuits. He believed that every child should have the opportunity to be happy and successful in ther chosen endeavors. He was active in Van Buren County and participated in many children's organizations: such as the March of Dimes and the Shriners Children's Hospitals. He was also dedicated to seniors by helping establish the Senior Compainions Program in Van Buren County and building the Senior Citizens Center in Spencer, TN.

He served on the Board of Directors of the Caney Fork Electric Cooperative and the Upper Cumberland Human Resourses Agency.

Mr. Jones belonged to many Masonic Organizations and was a past Master of Mountain Lodge # 766. He belonged to the Scottish Rite and York Rite bodies, Shriners and the Knights Templar.

Mr. Jones was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the Spencer First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon from June 12, 1952 - present.

He was survived by two sons Albert Austin Jones and David Brent Jones. Two grandsons William Tate and David Brent, and daughter-in-law, Debra Lynee Matherne.

A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday at Spencer Funeral Home with Gene Brock officiating. Private burial will be in Spencer Town Cemetery, Spencer, TN.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2017,and again from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Thursday at Spencer Funeral Home, 16000 Hwy 111 N., Spencer, Tennessee.
